Promoting “Winter”

My friends are in an excellent band called Chicago Winter. They have a new album coming out this September called Numen Inest and they asked me to make a series of promotional teaser videos for them.

The beach scenes were shot with a model on two separate days at two locations. Credit goes to Tommy and Mike of Chicago Winter for the beach concepts, which are based on the as-yet-to-be-released album cover art, and the text in the second teaser. The first teaser consists of footage of the model plus some large crashing wave footage I shot in 60fps and slowed down to 24. The lyric video is made up of extra footage from one of my old projects, plus heavily key-framed animation within Final Cut. The second teaser is an amalgamation of location shooting, stock footage, a live performance I captured last winter, super 8mm footage of a practice session from two years back, and some tour footage captured by the band themselves. Altogether it makes for a fun, energetic jumble. Color correction was key for making otherwise repetitive scenes pop and shine, and I’m pleased with the results.

The three videos have been released over the past few weeks and are designed to both advertize and create excitement for the upcoming album. This project was a true joy to work on, I learned a lot, and I look forward to working with Chicago Winter in the future.
