Shooting with a Retro Fisheye Lens

Hoop and Snow

I recently picked up this cool lens: a Canon FD 7.5mm f/5.6 Fisheye lens.

I have an ever growing collection of fisheye lenses in my arsenal, but this is the first one I’ve purchased that I can mount on an adapter with a built-in variable ND filter, which is essential for video shooting. I’ve been working on a short narrative film to be shot entirely on a fisheye lens, and if I do shoot the film this summer, this is the lens I’ll be using.

One of the coolest features of this lens is its built-in photo filters, which effect black and white shooting more than anything eles. In color mode you just get these funky looks, but with black and white you can actually see how the image is effected.

Here’s a video I made for Fotodiox, taking a closer look at this lens and some of it’s quirks.
